Lost and Found Cat: Saturday April 15, 2017 from 10:30 AM - 12 noon at the Ladera Ranch Public Library
This month, we'll be reading "Lost and Found Cat: The True Story of Kunkush's Incredible Journey" by Doug Kuntz & Amy Shrodes. In this true story, we'll follow the journey of a refugee family as they flee towards safety...and the journey of their beloved cat, who is lost (and found) by a global community of helpers.
After the story, we'll talk about the many reasons why people leave their homes...and what we can all do to welcome and embrace the refugees and immigrants in our community. Stay tuned for more details!

Monday, January 16 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day): 2PM
Coretta Scott King asked everyone to make Martin Luther King, Jr. day a "day on, not a day off." Join members of the Ladera Ranch Social Justice Committee in doing just that as we celebrate Dr. King’s legacy & plan for the upcoming OC Women's March (Jan 21 in Santa Ana).
Bring the family to make pro-love, anti-hate signs for the march (or your front yard), listen to MLK's famous "I have a dream speech," and hang out with other families who care about social & racial justice. We'll meet around 2PM, and stay until we’re done or it gets dark.
What to bring: Posterboard or cardboard for your family's signs and your ideas of what to write on your signs. We'll have paint and markers to share, but more are always welcome!
Saturday, January 21st: Orange County Women’s March in Santa Ana
Join your neighbors for one of hundreds of marches happening around the country intended to reinforce that women’s rights are human rights, and that the voices of women, immigrants, Muslims, Veterans, people who identify as LQBTQ+, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, and survivors of sexual assault must be heard locally and nationally. More details about the march are available at www.ocwomensmarch.org
The march is family-inclusive, and we’ll be marching with our partners, spouses, and children; there are also many local faith-based organizations participating in the march. You’re welcome to march or support from the sidelines, whichever is right for you and your family. Watch the facebook page for transportation details—we’re planning to head up as a group.
Thursday, January 26th from 3:30 – 4:30 PM: Kids Around the World Party at the Ladera Ranch Library
Hosted by the Ladera Ranch Public Library, this event invites children to get their “passport” stamped as they learn about different cultures and countries throughout the world. We’ll be there, and hope you will be too! For more info, or to RSVP (appreciated, but not required), email Rebecca Porter at rebecca.porter@occr.ocgov.com
Saturday, February 18th from 10-11AM: Ladera Ranch Library Book Club Discussion of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “Between the World and Me”
Hosted by the Ladera Ranch Public Library, this is an opportunity to join other Ladera residents in a discussion of this powerful and thought provoking analysis of race and racism in U.S. society. For more info, or to RSVP (appreciated, but not required), email Rebecca Porter at rebecca.porter@occr.ocgov.com
